Afan Lodge: Sale Now Complete

Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund is pleased to confirm that the sale of Afan Lodge has now been completed.
Afan Lodge ceased trading in November 2024 following a formal consultation with staff. Since purchasing the Lodge in 2019, Pen y Cymoedd had supported its operation through an exceptionally challenging period — including the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Big Improvements to Bryn Golwg Play Area, Clyne!

Pen y Cymoedd is pleased to be supporting Clyne and Melincourt Community Council with £25,895 towards an upgrade of Bryn Golwg Play Area, building on previous improvements funded through our Micro Fund in 2019.
The aim of the project is to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor space for children, young people, and families of all ages and abilities within the community.

Celebrating Two Years of the Children’s Rights Officer in the Afan Valley

We’re delighted to share an update as we reach the end of Year 2 of our three-year Children’s Rights project in the Afan Valley through NPT Children’s Rights Unit.
Over the past year, around 170 pupils every month have taken part in children’s rights workshops across the primary schools and feeder comprehensive.
Groundbreaking VR mental health intervention trialled in Wales
Autumn 2025
A trial programme of mental health support delivered via a virtual reality headset is underway in Wales. The programme developed by mental health charity New Horizons in partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) utilises mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) techniques to target improvement in an individual’s mental wellbeing.

Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund is looking for an exceptional Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) consultant (or team) to join us on a 2-year journey (with potential for extension) to explore, evidence and share the impact of over a decade of place-based investment in the upper Neath, Afan, Rhondda and Cynon valleys.

Bryn Sion Baptist Church in Trecynon has been awarded £36,160 from Pen y Cymoedd as part of a wider £340,000 renovation project that will breathe new life into the historic chapel — preserving its heritage while transforming it into a warm, welcoming and fully accessible space for the whole community.

Busy Pins and Needles is a family-run fabric shop located in Aberdare. Not only do they offer a wide range of craft supplies, but they also use these supplies to create stunning and unique creations that are exclusive to their store. They provide an extensive selection of fabrics, wool, and knitting supplies, along with sewing essentials. Their staff are highly knowledgeable and experienced, and can offer tailored advice to customers who need help.

The Mastering Marketing Programme is a targeted, mentor-led support initiative designed to help small and micro businesses build their marketing capacity, increase visibility, and ultimately grow their income.
The fund is committed to supporting initiatives that help independent businesses to become more financially secure and sustainable, and this programme will build long-term marketing confidence and capability through hands-on, personalised support.
Regeneration project receives £477,285 to tackle empty homes in Wales

A housing regeneration project has received a substantial funding package to address the high number of empty properties in Wales.
Community Impact Initiative has been awarded £477,285 by the Pen Y Cymoedd Community Fund to continue work regenerating empty properties in the upper reaches of the Neath, Afan, Rhondda and Cynon valleys through its Building Resilience in Communities (BRiC) project.
