Glynneath Golf Club: Building Momentum Through Smart, Sustainable Investment
Glynneath Golf Club continues to go from strength to strength. After stabilising the Club with support from the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund, the team has kept the momentum going — focusing on targeted improvements that make a real difference to members, visitors and the wider community.
A major step forward this year has been welcoming PGA professional Stuart Wilson to the Club. Stuart has installed a top-end indoor coaching studio and brought a fresh, professional energy to coaching and player development. His impact is already being felt across the Club.
Alongside this, the Club is considering and seeking funding for a series of phased upgrades, including:
- Refurbishing bar and function spaces to improve community use
- Enhancing accessibility with new pathways, signage and parking layouts
- Tackling long-needed resurfacing of the driveway and lower car park
Rather than pursuing one large capital project, the Club is taking a smart, incremental approach — delivering improvements as opportunities arise, supported by a mix of grant funding, internal fundraising and growing financial stability.
The result? A Club that’s busier, more professional and more ambitious than ever. Glynneath Golf Club is proving that steady, well-planned investment can transform facilities, strengthen community connections and build a sustainable future for golf in the valley.
“The support provided by PyC has undoubtedly played a critical role – it helped create the stability and capacity needed to start moving the Club forward, and we are now seeing the benefits of that” – Glynneath Golf Club
The Fund was established by energy company Vattenfall to benefit the communities hosting the Pen y Cymoedd wind farm across the upper Neath, Afan, Rhondda and Cynon Valleys. It exists to support local people, groups and organisations to invest in themselves, their ideas and their communities.
The Community Fund has a substantial annual budget that is index-linked, meaning it increases in line with inflation. As an example, this equated to around £2.5 million in 2025. The Fund will continue to support communities until 2043, creating long-term opportunities for growth, resilience and positive change.
The Fund is managed by an independent, locally based not-for-profit Community Interest Company. It is overseen by a Board of Directors with strong local connections and delivered by a small but dedicated staff team with extensive community engagement experience. We are here to help ensure the Fund delivers on the vision and priorities of local communities.
Over the next 10 years, the Fund is focusing on investment in people, places and businesses — helping the Valleys to thrive, driving bold ideas, supporting transformation and creating lasting impact for current and future generations.
