We supported Penaluna’s with £26,000 loan/grant mix for their new mobile shop ready to attend events, festivals and private functions.

Already a successful business with an excellent local reputation, Penaluna’s had clearly identified why they needed this and the benefit it would bring to them as a business, their staff and the local area.

Treorchy Male Voice Choir is famous across the world for their beautiful choral singing and have been based in Treorchy since 1947. As well as a whole host of events, concerts and performances locally they have always had a busy schedule of performing across the UK and overseas.

This machine has enabled us to light scarify and collect surface debris and thatch enabling rainwater to permeate into existing drainage system allowing otherwise totally waterlogged surface to be playable transforming the usage for all age groups involved.

The Upper Cwmparc Allotment Society Committee and Plot Holders are delighted with the project.  Only requiring one quote made the process much easier.  We were very lucky to find a contractor willing and able to do the work who completed it to our requirements in a timely manner.

In September 2023, the 13th Cwmgwrach Scout Group approached the fund. Established in 1980 with around 50 members and 12 volunteers they are a solid group providing a really great activity for young people in the area.

When PyC visited the Abergorki Community hall to see a group based there, it was apparent that the downstairs toilets needed complete refurbishment. After discussing the problem with the hall trustees, they had a quote and applied to our Micro Fund for help.

After 4 years the Under the Sky Growing and Learning Project has come to an end. We were excited to fund this for the 4 year period. Despite the obvious challenges that had not been planned for with the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, this project had impact and many unexpected outcomes.

Arts Factory Health & Wellbeing Youth Club was opened in October 2021 due to the increased demand for a youth provision in the Rhondda Fach area. This was a very limited service and we had a large number of young people trying to access our service. Fortunately were able to secure additional funding from the Micro Fund Grant and after consultation with the young people we found that they would prefer it to stay open longer on nights it was already open.

The number of otters spotted in the river Cynon has increased following a £50K investment to clean up the river. The ‘River for All’ project being part-funded by the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund and run by the Southeast Wales Rivers Trust is a three-year initiative aimed at improving and enhancing the biodiversity of the river Cynon.

Just under a year ago we awarded a Micro Fund to Gilgal Coffee and Breakfast club. They were the 1st organisation in the Upper Afan Valley to establish a Food Bank and when the pandemic restrictions started to lift, they recognised people in community needed somewhere safe to come and have a chat and get used to being with other people again and this combined with cost-of-living crisis gave them the idea to start an affordable coffee and breakfast club.

In March 2022, the committee of Dan y Coed Community Centre in Tonmawr approached the fund to help them put on some community events and run some pilot classes. The aim was to get community back together and see what activities could be successful in the village after the pandemic.
